About the Author

Five kids!  That about says it all.  Welcome to my crazy life.  My name is Kristin, and I am a busy mother trying to fit in my love of crafts (Krafts if you are obsessed with the letter “K”) into my busy life.

My oldest child is 17 1/2 years older than my youngest, so I have been at this Mommy thing for a looooonnnnnngggg time.  When my oldest of three girls was headed off to college, we were just bringing home our first adopted son from Korea.  Later we got him a brother.  God was kind enough to send us a VERY strong message that we were done with child rearing by giving us a son with night terrors.  Yes, several years of sleepless nights will put an end to things very quickly.  We heard that message loud and clear, five times a night, for about three years.

I am a trained teacher with a Master’s degree, but five kids spaced over 17 1/2 years, plus a workaholic husband who travels constantly, doesn’t leave much time for a real job.  I have been lucky enough at times to find part time teaching jobs, but they usually want me to go full time, and, well, you understand….

I have taught secondary Math and elementary Gifted and Talented, and have volunteered in schools all my life.  I love going to school, I love working in schools, and I just love being in schools.  I have also worked as a computer programmer in an actuarial department.  I am a passionate advocate for gifted and talented children, having raised three of them, but that’s another blog!

Most of the time I am just Mom.  I keep myself challenged with my second love – arts and crafts.  I actually have taken a large number of art classes.  I can’t say that I have time to create “art,”  but I have dabbled in every form of craft.  I am a true jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none.  From weaving to scrapbooking to sewing clothes for my kids, I have tried it all.  Beading jewelry and knitting are my latest obsessions, but if you stick around long enough, that will change!

I know that there are others out there just like me – trying to find a way to be a good mother while keeping yourself challenged intellectually, trying to figure out how to find time, how to focus, if there is a way to make any money at it, and of course, trying to figure out how to rationalize it all!
