I’m going to give this selling on Etsy thing a try. I took some picture of my watch outdoors and got all set up and posted it on Etsy. I don’t know if it will sell, but at least I am getting started. Now if I can only find the time to make something else to sell. And of course, I need to make enough to be able to part with some. Better finish the socks first. Unfortunately, all of the time I could have devoted to knitting today was spent on blogging!
I made some progress on the socks yesterday. Here is a picture of front and back. The pattern is “Toe-Up Chevron Lace Socks” by Gayle Pounds, available at Ravelry.com.
The red thread is a lifeline. A lifeline is a thread temporarily inserted through the loops of a row or knitting. It gives you a place to rip back to if you make a mistake since lace patterns are so hard to understand when trying to fix a mistake. There are three methods I know of to add the thread.
- Thread it on a darning needle, and pass it through every loop on the needles. That is what I used here.
- Tape it to a knitting needle and then knit a row.
- Thread it through a hole in an interchangeable needle kit and then knit as usual. (This is great if you have this type of needle – I have them, but not this small.)
I am having fun with my first chevron pattern. I found it difficult to understand the pattern at first, but eventually figure it out after looking online at a few more chevron pattern descriptions. Basically you are knitting three stitches into one stitch in the middle (by knitting two into one and doing a yarnover), and dropping the added two stitches at either side by knitting two stitches as one (with a k2tog and ssk). A purl stitch separates each pattern unit. Then you knit all the knits and purl all the purls. Not too hard to understand once you get it.
I’ll keep you “post”-ed.
