I am trying to take some photos of jewelry to sell on Etsy. After reading about using a light box, I decided to try and throw together a quick one. So, my first try is the Rubbermaid container light box. I thought this was a really good idea, and it worked out okay, though there are changes I will make in the future.
I put it near the window, but there were too many shadows, so I closed the blinds, which let in some light but without shadow lines. Then I put my Ott light nearby to add light.
It wasn’t perfect, but okay for my first try. I found that the rubbermaid container did not sit flat enough, and I needed more light filtering. The foam sheet was also a bit too flimsy. I think that next time I will make one out of cardboard with interfacing as many people have suggested, and use posterboard as the backing for the fabric, or maybe just the posterboard since the fabric wrinkles.
This is an image taken in the light box. I eventually figured out that I had to overexpose because the background was so white. Also, you can see that there are some fabric wrinkles, and too much of a shadow. But it’s not horrible, and I can crop out the big shadow on this one.
